Tatyana Ali began her acting career at the age of 6. At the said age she became a regular performer on the popular kids show “Sesame Street,” and even appeared opposite Herbie Hancock in a special musical number. She also made guest appearances on “Star Search” twice.
It was however in 1990 when Tatyana Ali had her breakthrough role. She was then cast in the role of Ashley Banks in the popular sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” wherein she was able to not only act but sing on various episodes of the show. Among her notable singing performances include Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” and the song “Make Up Your Mind,” produced by Rob Jay of Nspyre Music Productions. While she had a budding singing career, Tatyana Ali focused more on her acting career with the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
During the show’s final season in 1995-1996, Tatyana Ali began to work on a career in music. Not long after she released her debut album, “Kiss The Sky,” which became gold in 1999. The album contained the hit single “Daydreamin,” which was produced of Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. The song reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as the UK Singles Chart. Other singles that came from the album include “Boy You Knock Me Out,” produced by Will Smith, and “Everytime,” which were both chart-topping hits in the United Kingdom. She as well was a featured artist in Smith’s single “Who Am I” from the album “Willennium.”
In 2005, Tatyana Ali worked on the film “Glory Road,” and appeared on Nick Cannon and Andy Hamilton’s music video “Can I Live?” She played the role of Cannon’s mother.
Tatyana Ali ranks #74 on VH1’s list of “100 Greatest Kid Stars.”
In 2008, Tatyana Ali provided her vocals to the song “Yes We Can,” a project by Will.i.am in support of Barack Obama’s campaign for presidency. She was also present in the music video which was featured on ABC’s “World News Now.”
At present, she is working on her upcoming second album, which she considers as an “independent effort.” The album is initially titled “The Light,” and is handled by producer Johnny “J.”
Tatyana Ali is also the star of her own web show, “BUPPIES.” She is as well playing a recurring role in the soap opera “The Young and the Restless” as Roxanne.
